The Gawler Apex Club are the inaugural winners of the local combined service clubs quiz night trophy.

About 140 members and friends of local services clubs participated in the first ever “combined” quiz night to raise funds, have fun and share the positive message about the work volunteers in service clubs perform.

Local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo who has been working with local service clubs to identify events, activities and projects they can undertake together for the benefit of the community, sponsors the trophy.

Mr Piccolo said over $1800 was raised on Saturday night, with proceeds going to the Dalkeith CFS, Northern Domestic Violence Service and the Farmer Drought Appeal.

“It was a fun night and valuable funds were raised for local community organisations and causes,” said Mr Piccolo.

The Gawler Bottlebrush CWA team and the Gawler Apex Club drew at the end of the ordinary round of the quiz, with Apex winning after a ‘golden question’.

The Gawler and Angle Vale Lions Clubs arranged the raffle on the night, which raised almost $600.

Mr Piccolo said service clubs do great work in the community, and the quiz night was an activity to mark service club week 2018.

“Service Clubs are powered by volunteers and are about great works, good fun and fellowship,” said Mr Piccolo.

A member of the Gawler Lions Club, Mr Piccolo said lifelong friendships can be formed by participating in a service club.

Mr Piccolo said he was particularly appreciative of the sponsorship of the Hewett Function Centre who provided their venue at no cost.

“Service Clubs do great work by themselves and are just awesome when they work together. “There was some friendly competition during the quiz and losing clubs are already preparing to win it next year.”
