Minister Impressed By Gawler Health Service Outcomes

The Gawler Health Advisory Council (HAC) had the opportunity to brief the Health Minister Peter Malinauskas in person, when he visited the health service recently.

Mr Malinauskas visited the health service at the invitation of local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo.

Mr Piccolo said he was approached by the Gawler HAC to see if they could have discussion with the Minister about the challenges and future of the Gawler Health Service.

“I felt it was important for the Minister to hear from the HAC and to tour the hospital, so he could visualise the challenges facing the staff at the health service in providing the community with a good service,” Mr Piccolo said.

“The Minister quickly accepted the invitation and met with the HAC members, volunteers and staff at the health service,” he said.

The Minister toured the hospital, speaking with nursing staff and heard about the wonderful work they perform every day.

Mr Piccolo said it was clear from the statistics provided to the Minister that the Gawler Health Service is clearly batting above its weight.

“We are fortunate that we have a public health service that works with a not for profit service provided by local GPs, to provide local people with professional and reliable health care,” Mr Piccolo said.

“It is obvious that the accident and emergency service at the hospital needs a major injection of funds.

“While the A&E provides a great service in conjunction with GP Inc, both medical and nursing staff work under very trying conditions at times.”

“The Minister’s visit will help me put a very good case to government for the service to receive an upgrade.”

“The Minister was very impressed by the professionalism and commitment of the staff at the hospital,” he said.
