SOS Rally to be Held in Gawler

An “S.O.S” (Save Our Services) rally will be held this coming Sunday afternoon (8th September) to give local people an opportunity to protest the Marshall Liberal Government’s cuts to services in the local area.

Local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo, said the rally has been organised in response to requests from local residents, outraged by a range of cuts to services in the local community.

The rally will be addressed by Leader of the Opposition, Mr Peter Malinauskas, Gawler Mayor, Ms Karen Redman, and Rail Union Secretary and local resident, Mr Darren Phillips.

Mr Piccolo said when the Marshall Liberal Government axed the learner driver testing in Gawler, a number of angry parents asked what action they could take to protest against the closure.

“People are angry at the decision by the State Liberal Government to privatise the Gawler train services and want to be heard,” said Mr Piccolo.

“The pending privatisation of the Gawler Service SA Centre has people baffled as they see a widely used service potentially lost to the local community.

“The cuts to services at the Gawler SA Pathology Service has local people concerned about the risks to people’s health.

“SA Pathology is still under consideration for privatisation by the Marshall Liberal Government,” said Mr Piccolo.

Mr Piccolo said local people have taken to social media in their thousands to vent their anger to this assault on public services by the Marshall Liberal Government.

“These decisions will result in increased costs to local residents and small businesses, a loss of income to small business, a loss of jobs in the local area, and cuts to critical community services,” said Mr Piccolo.

“The community just don’t believe the State Liberal Government propaganda that the decisions will lead to better services and reduced costs to taxpayers.

“People still remember the same promise the Liberals made when they privatised ETSA.

“We now have much higher prices and reduced service levels.

“Gawler is a growing community where services should be expanding and not being cut.”

The rally will be held at 2:30 pm in the Niina Marni Café (located within the Gawler Civic Centre), 89-91 Murray Street, Gawler.

All members of the public are welcome to attend.
