Helpful information for Schools and Young People

Tony works closely with local schools to ensure they have the resources to offer the best education possible.

Some of the services my office and I can provide to your school are as follows:

  • Take groups of your students for a tour of Parliament House. Please click here for a tour request form to complete if you would like to book a tour for students (or governing Council members)
  • Provide prizes for school raffles
  • Arrange for letters of congratulations for students/staff
  • Advocate on your behalf to your local council/state government on traffic and other issues
  • Facilitate delegations to any Minister/Shadow Minister
  • Advocate on your behalf to the Minister for Education on issues of concern to your school community
  • Provide letters of support for school submissions for grants
  • Attend school governing council meetings to enable me to gain a better understanding of your educational programs
  • Promote your school activities in my newsletter EnLIGHTened*.  Enlightened is distributed buy Australia Post to more than 20,000 homes and businesses in the greater Gawler and Munno Para areas
  • Attend school assemblies as a guest speaker

Constitution Day (For Secondary Schools)
We run a tour and seminar in Parliament House on the importance of Australian Constitution Day (July 9th).  This is the day Queen Victoria signed the Bill to give assent to the Constitution of Australia Act 1900 which created the Federation of Australia. This seminar is ideal for legal studies and Australian History students or students in school leadership programs.

Staff Support Week (SSO Day)
We provide certificates of appreciation to SSOs (or your school’s equivalent) to acknowledge the contribution they make to the learning and development of students in your school’s care. SSO Week is usually held in the last full week in August.

Volunteer Week
Most schools rely on volunteers who perform a range of tasks to support the staff and students at the school.  We can provide certificates of appreciation for volunteers at your school. Closer to the week, you will be invited to nominate volunteers from your school to receive a certificate of appreciation.

World Teacher’s Day
Each year we present teachers with a certificate of appreciation to mark World Teacher’s Day. Around the world, World Teacher’s Day is celebrated on the 5th October, but as this falls in the school holidays in Australia the Day is celebrated on the last Friday in October.

Youth Advisory Panel (For Secondary Schools)
I have recently established a Youth Advisory Panel comprising of two students from participating secondary schools. Generally, the students are either in year 11 or 12. At meetings, we discuss issues important to young people and provide panel members an opportunity to interact with other students in the region. The students determine what we discuss, and I do try to include some developmental and personal growth opportunities as well.

Community Window
My electorate office has two windows which face Murray Street, Gawler and we make the windows available to local community organisations (including schools) who would like to promote a particular event or activity their organisation provides. If you would like your school to avail itself of this opportunity, please click here for the Office Window Display Booking Form.

Christmas Cards
Each year I publish a new Christmas Card. It has been my practise to invite students from a local school that is celebrating a significant milestone to provide the artwork. Recently, students from St Brigid’s Catholic School were invited to provide the artwork to mark its 50th Birthday.
