Gawler South resident, Angus Millikan was recently awarded the South Australian Broadcasters’ Association Inc. Bilby Award for Youth Contribution to community broadcasting.
Mr Millikan, the current and founding Treasurer of the Gawler Community Broadcasting Association, was surprised when his name was announced on the evening.Mr Millikan said he was not even aware he had been nominated.“Is it nice to be acknowledged though everyone on the committee is equally worthy of recognition for the work they do.” Mr Millikan said.
The SACBA introduced the Youth Contribution award in 2014 to recognise the contributions of young people aged under 25 year to community broadcasting. Mr Millikan is only the third person to receive the honour.Mr Millikan received the award during SACBA’s Annual Conference Dinner at the Lake Resort Hotel, West Lakes on Saturday, 20 August 2016.
Mr Millikan called into the office of the Local Member for Light, Tony Piccolo, to inform him of the local broadcasting group’s success.Mr Piccolo said it was great that such a busy young man was contributing to our local community.“Angus should be very proud of his achievements over the past 2 years in helping to get the Gawler Community Broadcasting Association off the ground,” Mr Piccolo said.
“The commitment of all the members of the broadcaster should be recognised for the vital role they play in providing a voice for Gawler.”
