The Gawler Bluejays Softball Club have been the successful recipients of a Holden Home Ground Advantage grant.

The Bluejays were awarded the $1650 grant to help the club upgrade the uniforms for their junior players. The cheque was presented to the club at its 30th birthday celebrations by Holden Zone Manager for SA/NT Mr David Forrest and Steinborner Holden Manager Mr Russell Smith. Holden’s Home Ground Advantage supports grass roots sporting clubs around Australia by committing $5 million over ten years to help develop and improve their facilities and equipment. Club secretary Kat Norris said the Bluejays have been working hard to re-establish a junior program. “Last season we entered a T-ball and junior team in the Gawler Districts Softball Association Competition,” said Ms Norris. Ms Norris said the club submitted an application to the Holden’s Home Ground Advantage Grant to purchase hats, drink bottles and uniforms for our juniors and we were pleased to be successful. The grant will be used to buy the juniors uniforms and other basic equipment. Ms Norris said the grant will help the juniors to feel they are part of the club, stay sun safe and help with the cost of playing sport for their parents.” Local Member of Parliament Tony Piccolo said the grant was very welcome as the club is run by volunteers who spend a great deal of their time fundraising.
