Plans for the first Christmas Parade in Gawler in over four decades are progressing with the event on schedule to take place at 7 pm on Saturday 2nd December in Murray Street, Gawler.

Parade spokesperson and local MP, Mr Tony Piccolo said plans for the Villawood Gawler Christmas Parade were well advanced with over half of the places for entries in the parade already filled.

Mr Piccolo said the parade is limited to 40 entries on the day, and that around 30 entries had already been received.

“To date we have received a wide range of entries from community groups and local small business, including music, dance and cultural groups,” said Mr Piccolo.

“The parade is meant to be a celebration of community life in the area with a Christmas theme and message, and so far, the entries are reflecting that goal.”

“It’s not too late to register for the event and we are seeking greater participation from local sporting, church groups and schools, to make it truly representative of our community.”

“Entries do not have to be something flash, and don’t necessarily require a float or the like, and walking down the street with a positive message is enough.”

“Council staff have been working hard to finalise plans for the street closure required for the parade to take place.”

“Members of the organising committee have contacted a range of people and organisations to ensure the event is a success.”

“If you a clown or another type of entertainer, then we would love to hear from you.”

The local Men’s shed guys have been busy helping Santa Claus making toys, so when he arrives in Gawler, he can present them to the local children.

Any individual, community group or business who would like to be part of the parade, should contact Tony Piccolo’s office on 85 222878 or via email at light@parliament.sa.gov.au for an entry form.

The event is supported by naming rights sponsor, local developer Villawood with additional financial support from the Town of Gawler and the Gawler Business Development Group.
