Gawler will be holding its second “Man with a Pram” event On Father’s Day, Sunday 5th September.

The event has been arranged by Dads Group Inc, the Gawler and District College and Elsie Ey Children Centres and supported by local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo.

Mr Piccolo said it is to celebrate new life with the arrival of new babies into our communities as well as championing the importance of active fatherhood, all while supporting perinatal mental health.

“This is a great opportunity for dads, particularly new ones, to connect with other new dads, have a feed while spending time with their kids,” said Mr Piccolo.

“The event is also designed to help inspire and connect dads in this important stage of our lives.”

Kim Wright from the Gawler and District College Children’s Centre, and Denise Scappaticci from Elsie/Hewett are organising the event to help bring dads together.

Mr Piccolo said being a new dad can be a joyful but also overwhelming experience so creating an environment for dads to share their stories will help them to better cope with the demands of fatherhood.

“Men need to be given more permission from society to play a great role in the lives of their children,” Mr Piccolo said.

“Events like this not only reaffirm the importance of fatherhood but help men get new insights into the opportunities that fatherhood offers.”

The event will be held at Clonlea Park with registrations opening at 9:30 am for a 10 am start for the walk.

Willo’s Men’s Shed are providing a free egg and bacon sanga when the dads sign in, while free coffee will also be available.

When Dads cross the finish line, they will also receive a free gift bag containing items for them and their children.  Mr Piccolo has also contributed to the gift bag.
