An expo and forum to provide information and advice for people living with a disability and their families and carers will be held next Wednesday (2nd June) at 6 pm at the Salvation Army Riverside Centre, Gawler.
The event has been arranged by the Adelaide North Special School in partnership with local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo.
Mr Piccolo said the event will have over 15 different services providers exhibiting their services to inform people living with disability and their families and assist them to have a better understanding of the options available and help them with their decision making.
“Negotiating the NDIS is not an easy task, so families need information and advice on what are the best services for their family member or the person they are caring for,” said Mr Piccolo.
“A range of service providers covering the areas of accommodation, day options, respite care, training and employment, art and recreation will be exhibiting at the expo,” said Mr Piccolo.
“There will also be representatives from Feros Care, the NDIA and advocacy services to help families better understand the strengths and limits of the NDIS.”
“Families will be able to speak directly with service providers, and more importantly, ask questions about the different service options available.”
“Hopefully, the expo and forum will help families with their decision making.”
“I would also encourage people considering a career in the disability sector to come along and talk to potential employers to see what local job opportunities exist.”
“Working in the disability sector can be incredibly rewarding. Disability support workers help people with daily tasks, provide companionship, encouraging social outings and support people to achieve their goals and live life to their fullest.”
For those families who cannot attend an evening event, a second expo and forum will be held earlier that day at the Adelaide North Special School located in Munno Para from 12:30 pm till 4:30 pm.
