Sport and recreation clubs across the region have been given additional time to apply for grants that can provide crucial support.
The Regional Drought Relief Round has been extended until Thursday 12 June, enabling more clubs to access up to $5,000 in targeted relief.
Since Adelaide Plains, Lower and Mid-North and Clare & Gilbert Valleys are eligible areas, Tony Piccolo MP recently organised an information session at Riverton Community Hall, centrally located in these regions.
Mr Piccolo invited all sport and recreation clubs and provided information about the grant to encourage further uptake of this unique opportunity.
“This is a non-competitive grant, meaning if applications meet the criteria, clubs can secure $1,500, $3,000 or $5,000, depending on their membership size – it’s as simple as that,” said Mr Piccolo.
“This funding is a significant opportunity to support local sport and recreation – ensuring clubs can continue offering vital programs for the community.”
More than 500 sport and active recreation clubs have applied for funding since the program opened last month, including 160 applications across the Yorke and Mid North.
The session on Monday, 12 May, saw multiple club representatives attend to hear Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing, Emily Bourke MLC, outline the key criteria and the range of projects the grant can help fund.
“We want regional clubs to get behind this program to help them get through a challenging time for so many,” said Minister Bourke.
“Targeted drought relief will ease the additional pressure on clubs as they keep their communities active and connected.
“The programs and services clubs run are crucial, which is why we have extended and expanded support available following a strong early response.”
The grants are part of the Malinauskas Labor Government’s $73 million drought support package to support communities impacted by drought across the state.
Eligible not-for-profit clubs affected by drought able to receive funding to cover funding to cover essential costs.
These may include water-saving initiatives (e.g. rainwater tanks, irrigation upgrades), energy efficiency improvements, equipment, uniforms, protective gear, participation-focused technology or infrastructure and utility bill relief.
