The United Nations believes that “Empower a woman, empower a nation” and have adopted this theme for the 2017 UN International Women's Day across the world.
The Gawler International Women's Day Event Committee has taken the slant of “Empowering women through creativity” as its focus for its major breakfast event.
The committee is delighted to welcome as guest speaker Charmaine Jones-Devasagayam one of Adelaide's best jazz singers, composers, educators and advocates who will present her story of creative evolution.
Her vocal abilities and musical ventures are as eclectic as the variety of industry greats she has had the pleasure of working with; Paul Grabowsky, Paul Kelly, Michael Bublè, Naturally 7, Darlene Love, James Morrison, Leo Sayer, Jonathon Welch AM, to name just a few.
Producer of critically acclaimed ensemble Gospo Collective, a gospel-esque choral experience unlike anything the Southern Hemisphere has to offer, Charmaine also conducts St Mary’s College and Pembroke School jazz choirs, regular prize winners at the prestigious Generations in Jazz competition.
Starting at 7.15am on Wednesday 8 March, at the Gawler Greyhound Racing Club, Nixon’s, a wonderful breakfast will be served, as the sun rises and women from diverse backgrounds share their stories. At this event, we will also be presenting three awards to female high school students from each of the local high schools. The award includes a cheque for $300 providing additional funds for the student to continue in her studies.
The funding for these awards is raised by the raffles held on the day.Tickets are selling fast so get a group of like- minded women together and book online with Trybooking https://www.trybooking.com/252022 to take advantage of this wonderful way to start your day in your own "backyard."
