Eleven Gawler sporting clubs and organisations have received a significant boost through the Active Club Program, a Malinauskas Labor State Government initiative designed to support grassroots sports and recreation.

The grants, which provide funding for essential equipment, uniforms and participation programs, aim to strengthen community engagement and encourage more South Australians to stay active.

The Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing (ORSR) has allocated funding to help clubs overcome financial barriers, ensuring that all members—regardless of their circumstances—can continue to enjoy the benefits of sport and recreation.

The Gawler Girl Guides are putting their $1500 towards a portable defib unit, Gawler Gymnastics Club ($3000) will use theirs for crucial accreditation courses, and Gawler Central Sporting Club ($3000) will install wireless connectivity across their precinct for all teams to score online.

Gawler BMX Club’s $3000 will be invested in two new gazebos for shade and tear-drop banners for advertising and the Rockabellas Roller Derby League ($3000) are using their grant on recording equipment so families and friends can watch teams compete when they travel.

While the Gawler Eagles FC ($3000), South Gawler Cricket Club ($3000), Barossa, Light and Gawler Umpires Association ($1500), Giants Softball Club ($1500), Gawler Petanque Club ($1500) and South Gawler Netball Club ($3000) will use their funds for sporting equipment.

Tony Piccolo MP praised the initiative, emphasising the importance of government support for local clubs.

"Grassroots sporting clubs are the backbone of our communities," said Mr Piccolo said.

"They provide a space for people to connect, stay active and develop lifelong skills – not just for players, but also the volunteers, families and supporters who make these sporting organisations special.

“Our local sports rely heavily on local volunteers, who drive the success of our clubs and organisations, but they can’t do it on their own.

“Seeing our government invest in our local clubs is fantastic—it ensures they can continue to thrive and serve our community."
