The Gawler Health Foundation is a hardworking group of volunteers who raise funds for projects and equipment to improve the quality of the services and experiences provided by the Gawler Health Service, according to local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo.
Foundation spokesperson, Ms Nicole Ryan said fundraising includes a variety of activities such as special events, stalls, movie nights, donations, memberships, in-memoriam donations and bequests. “Keep an eye out for details of our Walk for Gawler Health in October,” said Nicole.
Recently the Foundation purchased new equipment including five televisions for day surgery and a television for the waiting room for the Dialysis Unit. Ms Ryan said six Foetal Dopplers have recently been purchased to allow doctors and nurses to hear the baby’s heartbeat.
Cancer patients will benefit from the recently acquired Chester Chest, which allows nurses to practice putting in lines for Chemo treatment. “More equipment is on the way,” said Ms Ryan. The Foundation also likes to get the community involved.
In December, Trinity College Gawler River Year 9 Tech Studies class of 2016 produced two lovely coffee tables for the Foundation. Ms Ryan said these are located in the rooms with the sofa bed chairs we purchased last year.
“These rooms allow families who have members in the palliative care unit to sit and relax, have some time out and in some cases spend the night with their loved ones.”
“It is great to see young students helping their community and producing such wonderful quality tables,” she said.
