Residents living in the Gawler, Barossa, Light, Adelaide Plains and Playford Council areas are being encouraged to provide their thoughts on the transport needs of people living in the northern peri-urban region.
Local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo said the Malinauskas Labor Government is undertaking a transport study to inform future transport planning and investment in the region.
“The study will consider key issues and opportunities to improve transport, such as road safety and efficiency, and its ability to support livability, and population and economic growth,” said Mr Piccolo.
“To address the housing crisis, the Government is fast-tracking the largest release of residential land in the state’s history, with a large proportion in the northern peri-urban region.”
“It is important to understand the implication of that growth and be clear on what investment is needed to ensure the transport network effectively moves people and goods safely and efficiently into the future.”
“This study will identify transport improvements options that build on the existing investment already underway by the Government in this region.”
Mr Piccolo said community and stakeholder engagement is important for the successful delivery of this study. As part of the planning process, consultation with the community and other key stakeholders will be conducted.
“A sustainable, holistic transport plan is vital to unlock housing and industry growth potential, and to support job creation in the region,” said Mr Piccolo.
“This transport study will help us plan future transport investment that is needed to support this growth.”
“To get started, we’re talking with local residents and businesses who live and work in the region to understand what the issues are and what is needed in the short, medium and long term.”
“This feedback will inform the development and outcomes of the study,” added Mr Piccolo.
Residents and businesses should visit https://dit.sa.gov.au/adelaide-north-transport-study for further information about how to get involved and to provide their input via a survey and face to face engagement until 18 February 2024.
For those residents who would like to talk face to face with a DIT Engagement Officer, they can drop in anytime at the times indicated.
