Local communities across Adelaide Plains, Clare and Gilbert Valleys, Gawler and Lower and Mid-North regions are being asked to rally behind their towns in the 2025 South Australian Agricultural Town of the Year Award.

A record-breaking 97 towns have been nominated from across the state in an opportunity to highlight the dedication and innovation of local communities that have shaped South Australia’s success.

Tony Piccolo MP has 11 towns nominated across his current electorate of Light and the seat he'll contest next year in Ngadjuri (currently Frome) - Auburn, Clare, Eudunda, Farrell Flat, Freeling, Gawler, Kapunda, Mintaro, Penwortham, Reeves Plains and Wild Horse Plains.

Mr Piccolo is keen to encourage residents to cast a vote for their town and help gain recognition for excellence in sustainable farming, forward-thinking projects and community leadership.

"This award is more than just a title—it’s about celebrating the resilience, commitment and innovation that define our agricultural towns,” said Mr Piccolo.

“These communities put in extraordinary effort to make agriculture thrive, and voting is a simple way we can all show our support.”

Voting closes on Friday, 20th June, and the top 10 towns with the most votes will progress to the judging panel.

The 10 towns will submit written submissions and be assessed for their contribution to agriculture, community strength and regional leadership, where three finalists will be chosen before a winner is crowned.

Mr Piccolo said there is potential for additional benefits than simply recognition for regional towns’ agricultural efforts.

“The further each town gets in the process, the more opportunity there for exposure, which can attract investment, tourism and opportunities that benefit residents and businesses alike,” said Mr Piccolo.

"If you love where you live and appreciate the role agriculture plays in your town, make sure to cast your vote.”
