The Northern Adelaide future needs transport study, that includes the immediate peri-urban areas around Gawler, has received over 1,000 submissions to date, with community consultation not ending until Sunday 3rd March.

Local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo is urging local residents to have their say and provide feedback to the Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) either in person or online.

While a listening post was recently held in Gawler by the DIT engagement team, Mr Piccolo said that he has been able to lobby the State Government to hold an additional face to face session, in view of the strong response he received on his social media.

“The response to my social media posts clearly indicated local people have a strong interest in this issue, given the growth we anticipate over the coming decade,” said Mr Piccolo.

“Public transport appears to be a key issue of importance to local people, and some felt the online survey was biased towards road transport.”

“Through the Minister’s Office I was able to provide DIT with this feedback, so the website with the online survey has been amended to make providing comments on public transport issues, much easier.”

“I also advised the Minister’s Office that an additional listening post in Gawler was warranted, and so the DIT will now be able to meet with local residents from 4:30pm till 6:30 pm on Thursday 29th February, at the Gawler Central Shopping Centre. Cowan Street Gawler (Adjacent to Gawler Central Railway Station)

“I would urge people to take advantage of this opportunity to raise their concerns about the transport needs of the region.”

Mr Piccolo said that for those residents who cannot attend the face to face listening post, they can still provide their feedback and thoughts online at https://dit.mysocialpinpoint.com.au/northern-transport-study/adelnorthts

“Comments can also be emailed direct to the Department at DIT.Engagement@sa.gov.au without the need to complete the online survey.

More information about the study can be found at https://dit.sa.gov.au/adelaide-north-transport-study

The department study will be dealing with strategic transport issues and key transport routes and services, so local road issues should still be referred to people’s local councils.

Mr Piccolo said that his office is happy to talk with local residents about their transport issues and ensure they reach the right decision makers at the local or state level.  My office can be contacted on 85 222878 or via email at light@parliament.sa.gov.au

“This study is very important, as it will promote the timely planning and delivery of transport infrastructure needed to ensure we build liveable communities.”
