Learning and earning opportunities for people living with a disability or people seeking to work in the sector will be showcased at a major seminar and exhibition being held at the Adelaide North Special School (ANSS).

The event is being co-ordinated by local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo in association with the school and the Disability Workforce Hub (DWH) based at Northern Futures Inc.Mr Piccolo said the community gain a better understanding of the learning and employment opportunities available in the disability sector.

“People who wish to work in the sector, those living with disability looking for meaningful work and small businesses that would like to explore what opportunities might exist for them will all find the event beneficial,” Mr Piccolo said.

“Small businesses will gain a better understanding of how they might be able to provide services to support the sector as it grows with the roll out of the National Disability Scheme in northern Adelaide from 1st July this year.

“Those attending the exhibition will have an opportunity to talk one to one with service providers or regulators."

The exhibition will have a number of service providers and advocacy groups from both the not for profit and for profit sectors and government agencies.ANSS Principal Byron Stuut said the school community are thrilled to host the Learning and Earning Expo.

“We are highly committed to providing excellent opportunities for children and young adults living with disabilities to access the wider community as active and purposeful citizens,“ Mr Stuut said.

“I take my hat off to the services and employers presenting at the expo who have a passion and belief to support those living with a disability.

”Futures Disability Employment Co-ordinator Yvonne Cloke said the event promoted the wide range of occupations in the disability sector, not just direct individual support and showcases the enhanced career services provided through the Disability Workforce Hub.

The seminar and exhibition will be held on Wednesday 5 April 2017 from 6pm at the Adelaide North Special School, 135 Douglas Dr, Munno Para.
