The re-launch of the Light Electorate Men’s Wellbeing Network during the week was a huge success, with a huge number of men and women from a range of service providers attending.

Convened by local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo, the Network comprises representatives from organisations who provide support or services to men and boys in the local community.

Mr Piccolo said the purpose of the network is to share information about the services available and to also act as a forum for referrals.

“The network will provide service providers with the information they need to provide better support and services to men and boys across a range of needs, from education and training, to employment, spiritual needs,  and psychological support for men and boys in crisis,” said Mr Piccolo.

The Network will be putting together a directory of providers of services and support reflecting the diversity of the service providers attending.”

“The directory will help service providers refer men and boys to the most appropriate support provider in the area,” said Mr Piccolo.

“It is important that the Network membership reflect the diversity of men and boys in our community.”

“Access and inclusivity are two guiding principles for the Network”

The Network plans to invite guest speakers where a gap in knowledge amongst the membership is identified.

Mr Piccolo said through the sharing of information and knowledge we hope to improve the skills of service providers and consequently the quality of service provided.

Mr Piccolo said he very pleased with the attendance to the first network meeting given its proximity to Christmas, but new and additional providers are still welcome to attend and participate.

“We are seeking people who have experience in providing services to indigenous men and boys and some new migrant groups,” Mr Piccolo said.

“While most participating organisations fit into the not-for-profit category, we do have some members who work in government or private business.

The Network will be holding its next meeting on Wednesday 16th February in Gawler.
