The Women in Super 2017 Mother’s Day Classic fun run and walk that raises funds and awareness for breast cancer research, will be held in Clonlea Park, Willaston this year.
The South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) in conjunction with the United Fire Fighters Union of South Australia (UFU) are proud to continue their support for the event.
Local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo has thrown his personal support behind the event and is urging local people to register for this ‘family friendly’ activity.
Mr Piccolo said it is also great news to hear that MFS firefighters and their union, the UFU are again supporting their event.
“Last year over 200 Fire Fighters and their families participated in the event,” Mr Piccolo said.
Local firefighter and UFU State Councillor, Mr Kevin Fischer said the Union is a proud supporter of the Mother’s Day Classic and has for the past four years participated in the event.
“We would encourage the whole community to be involved and increase awareness of the impact of breast cancer,” Mr Fischer said.
Gawler event organiser Gawler East resident Renee Platt said that she got involved in organising the event when she went to register last year.
“As a personal fitness trainer when I learnt that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer I just wanted to make a contribution to improve women’s health,” Ms Platt said.
Last year 900 local people participated, raising a staggering $15,000 for breast cancer research.
Mr Piccolo said the best way to participate is to register a team which can comprise members of your family, a group of friends, or work mates.
“For those people involved in sport, register your club members and help keep fit while supporting a very worthy cause” Mr Piccolo said.
“I’m certainly looking forward to participating in the event and will encourage my staff and volunteers to join in,” he said.
The Gawler Mother's Day Classic event will be held along the picturesque setting of the North Para River.
The 4km course with a walk or run option is over a mostly flat and hard surface track so prams and wheel chairs are more than welcome.
The event will be held on Mother’s Day, Sunday 14 May and participants are urged to register themselves or teams online by 10 May at,http://www.mothersdayclassic.com.au/event-info/regional-event-locations/south-australia/gawler/.
While people are encouraged to register online before the day to assist with planning, registrations will also be accepted on the day at the event site from 7 am. Mr Piccolo said if you wake up early on Mother’s Day and Decide to participate it’s not too late.
ME Bank has proudly supported the Mother’s Day Classic since 2005.
