Work on the new Ambulance Station in Two Wells is set to commence in October this year, following the project’s consideration by the Parliamentary Public Works Committee (PWC) this morning.
Speaking at the PWC, Labor Duty Member for Frome, Tony Piccolo said the $5 million project was a Malinauskas Government election commitment, making a significant contribution to the wellbeing of the Two Wells community and surrounding Districts.
“The new station will provide better response times for emergencies,” said Mr Piccolo.
“Two Wells is a fast-growing community, and this new station reflects the state government’s commitment to improving health outcomes for all South Australians, and in particular, the fast-growing urban areas in the north of Adelaide.”
“Located on Old Port Wakefield Road, with the Town Centre, the new Ambulance Station is part of the $102 million program of capital works to deliver five (5) new Ambulance Stations and six (6) rebuilt Ambulance Stations, across metropolitan Adelaide and surrounding regions.
Mr Piccolo said the proposal will deliver a new Ambulance Station that will provide accommodation for SAAS crews and garaging for three ambulances and one light fleet vehicle to meet the growing demand for emergency care in the greater Two Wells community.
Mr Piccolo said he understood that The Two Wells Ambulance Station will have space for three (3) Ambulance bays and one (1) light fleet vehicle within the proposed garage.
Mr Piccolo said according to the draft plans, the new Two Wells Ambulance Station will include the following functional spaces:
• One (1) office with four workstations, multi-use training area for ten (10) staff, a study for four (4) staff and a future-capacity meeting room for four staff;
• Crew and kitchen for six (6) staff and four (4) Privacy Wellbeing Restorative Break Rooms inclusive of lockers;
• Three (3) ambulance bays and one (1) bay for light fleet vehicles; and
• 15 external parking spaces and one (1) car port for ambulance parking.
The new station will include construction of a new car park to accommodate the displaced Council car park as a result of the construction of the new Ambulance Station.
The construction phase of the new station is expected to be completed in October 2026, and the facility should be operational by late 2026.
