Park Improvements A Slam Dunk For Local Families

Three families in the Light electorate have welcomed a decision by the State Labor Government to fund a improvements to their local parks, if re-elected at the March 17 State Election.

The State Labor Government have committed:

$15,000 towards the installation of a basketball ring for the park on Coleman Parade, opposite Ames Road;

$19,000 for a basketball ring for the Maple Street Reserve in Munno Para West; and

$40,000 for shade sails for the Nolan Place Reserve.

Local Member of Parliament, Mr Piccolo said he sought funding for the Coleman Parade basketball project and the shade sails for the Nolan Place Reserve after two separate families requested amenities to assist their children living with a disability.

“While the Maple Street Reserve will provide additional recreational space for local young people and families,” Mr Piccolo said.

“These projects will also provide a huge benefit to the wider communities.

“A common theme of the feedback I have received while doorknocking over the past six months has been the lack of some basic equipment in our local parks and reserves.

“Families are keen for their children to play outdoors, and the additional equipment will provide incentives for children to venture outside,” he said.

Mrs Roma Baldock said the basketball hoop in the Coleman Parade Reserve will help her grandson, Jack who lives with disability to play outside closer to home.

Tim and Amanda Nicholas of Munno Para said that their eldest child, Talon has albinism and the lack of shade at the local park has been a barrier to him enjoying the local park.

Mr Piccolo said that the shade sails will provide a sun sMart option for local families.

Munno Para West resident, Mr Wade Bennett said he was disappointed when his idea missed out on funding through Fund My Neighbourhood, but he was pleased to hear that Mr Piccolo saw merit in the idea and pushed for funding.
