An increasing number of local residents are experiencing poor TV reception and have taken to Facebook to air their grievances.

Last week, a Gawler East resident who posted a message on the I’m from Gawler Facebook page, expressing his experience with poor TV reception, drew a quick and strong response from other residents in the area.

The Facebook site contacted local Member of Parliament, Mr. Tony Piccolo seeking his assistance to have the relevant authorities investigate residents’ concerns.

Mr. Piccolo has invited residents in the area experiencing reception problems to send their details of their TV reception issues to his office, so that they can build a case to take to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) which regulates communication transmissions.

Mr. Piccolo said he would work closely with the local Federal Member, Mr. Nick Champion as ACMA is governed by Federal laws.

“I am very happy to work with local residents to sort this issue out,” said Mr. Piccolo.

Gawler East resident, Mr. Craig Hosking continues to experience reception difficulties despite replacing all cabling associated with his antenna.

Mr Hosking said the interference almost always occurs on a Saturday, and occasionally on a Sunday and Monday, the signal quality is strong but the quality drops in and out due to interference.

“Rumours suggest this could be related to NBN roll out or due to a mobile phone tower at the top of Calton Road,” said Mr Hosking.

“I am at my wits end and do not have the money to investigate further.” Mr Hoskings’ experience is echoed by the Jackson family at Gawler South.

Mr Nigel Jackson said “[the reception] is very hit and miss as to whether we are able to watch the terrestrial channels at some times.”

“The picture is often pixelated or there is no reception at all. Other times the reception is fine,” said Mr Jackson.

“It may be coincidental, but reception is often dodgy at peak viewing times or for bigger shows (i.e. The Olympics, X-factor etc. etc.), “ added Mr Jackson.

Mr. Piccolo said that residents in his electorate should email their concerns about their TV reception issues to light@parliament.sa.gov.au or could use the contact facility on his website at www.tonypiccolo.org
