SA Premier Jay Weatherill raised his energy plan for the state on a new platform when he met with commuters at the Gawler Railway Station.

Accompanied by local Member Tony Piccolo, the Premier spoke with local people about his energy plan and answered questions on a range of other issues.

The Premier spent about 45 minutes at the station, to obtain feedback from local people on their understanding of the energy plan.

Mr Piccolo said local people reacted positively, and welcomed the opportunity to engage with the Premier on a range of issues.

“And yes, the electrification of the Gawler railway line was raised,” said Mr Piccolo.

Mr Piccolo said work on the electrification project is scheduled to start later this year, and he hoped that funding would be found to extend the project up to Gawler Central.

The line was due to be fully electrified, but was pegged back to Salisbury when the Abbott Federal Liberal Government made a policy decision to not fund public transport projects.

Mr Piccolo said the Premier also made time to visit one of Gawler’s biggest primary schools, Hewett PriMary with about 570 students.

Mr Piccolo said the Premier inspected the disability unit, the children’s centre, and discussed a range of issues with Principal Di Jamieson.
