Now in its 12th years, the South Australian Premier’s Challenge continues to attract more participants each year.
Last year, 129,523 students completed the Challenge from priMary to senior schools across the State. Local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo said that at least 1.55 million books were read by students in 2015 with well over 15 million books read in South Australian since 2004.
“The Challenge requires students to read 12 books between the beginning of the school year and early September,” Mr Piccolo said.
“The Challenge has a total of 14 different levels for each year of schooling, starting with the first year when a certificate signed by the Premier is presented at the completion of the Challenge.”
For participants in Years 2 to 7, a medal is presented to each student, starting with bronze, through to legend medal in year 6 and a Hall of Fame medal in Year 7. Senior school students are presented with Reader for Life (R4L) awards culminating in year 14 with R4L Hall of Fame recognition.
Mr Piccolo said that it is great that in Gawler, local schools are reporting up to almost 100% participation and school presentations.
