Reid residents have welcomed the announcement that if elected at the March 2022 State Election an incoming Malinauskas Labor Government would invest up to $600,000 for the construction of a playground in the area.
The announcement was made by Local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo at a “community conversation” held in the area on Saturday morning.
Mr Piccolo said the investment would include a nature playground with adventure play elements (flying fox, rope climb and swings), turf lawn area, mounding, plantings, trees, new paths, furniture, shelter, and a drinking fountain.
“This playground is something residents have been agitating for a long time and I hope that Labor win the election so it can be delivered,” said Mr Piccolo.
“The area is reasonably isolated and has poor road access with little, if any, social infrastructure.”
“Sadly, the area has been allowed to develop without the necessary infrastructure to support the community.”
“The residents were excited at the prospect that the playground could finally be built.”
“A final location for the playground within the estate has not been finalised, but a process of consultation would be undertaken to ensure it best meets the needs of local residents.”
“Because of its location close to the river some technical issues will also need to be addressed.”
A number of other issues were also raised at the community conversation, including problems with some street trees, street lighting issues, direct access to the Willaston area, and safety issues associated with vehicle headlights driving along the Gawler Bypass.
Mr Piccolo said these issues were now been raised with the relevant authorities to explore how the concerns can be addressed.
“The delay in the return of trains was also high on the list of local residents’ concerns who rely on public transport to travel to work and study.”
