His Excellency the Governor of South Australia, the Honourable Hieu Van Lee AO will officially open the 160th Gawler Show to be held on Saturday and Sunday 27 and 28 August 2016.

Show Society President, Mr Stephen Frinsdorf said due to the ongoing commitment of many volunteers they are working towards making this show the best yet.

The state’s second largest show after the Royal Adelaide Show it has again attracted the services of South Australian personality, Cossie Costello who will be on the grounds doing events leading up to the fireworks.

“One of the many highlights will be the fireworks display on Saturday night,” said Mr Frinsdorf.

Regular attractions include a vintage Tractor display and a collection of Steam Engines and a Ute Muster on Sunday. The Animal Learning Centre will be of particular interest to children and young people.

Mr Frinsdorf said it would not be a Show without the various animals, cattle, sheep, poultry, pigeon, budgerigars which will be judged on the Saturday, while on Sunday Guinea Pigs, Cattle Boer Goats, Poultry will be vying for the winning ribbons. The CFS will be putting on a display and will be collecting donations for the Pinery Fire Victims.

Old Favourites such as Side Show Alley and Show Bags will return for the children, while mums and dads might like to check out the displays of fruit, eggs, flowers and the growing number of entries featuring beer, wines and olive oil.

Needle work, Art and Photo displays still attract a strong following. “It would not be a show without the CWA selling their wonderful Scones,” Mr Frinsdorf said.

Mr Frinsdorf thanked major sponsors Drakes SuperMarkets, Springwood Gawler East, Phil Hoffman Travel as well as a number of local sponsors.
