The stage is set for a very successful return of the Christmas parade to the streets of Gawler this coming Saturday night at 7pm.
Murray Street will come alive with a range floats, dancers, musicians, clowns, emergency vehicles, sporting groups, and of course, the star of the show, Santa Claus. Santa will arrive in a “sleigh” provided by Steinborner Automotive.
A total of 40 entries have registered to be part of Villawood Gawler Christmas Parade 2023 with the official program launched on Sunday 26th November 2023.
Murray Street will be closed to traffic between Calton and Lyndoch Roads from 6 pm with the parade scheduled to commence at 7 pm.
The event has been possible by the generous financial support of Villawood Properties, the Town of Gawler, the Gawler Business Development Group and the Gawler Central Shopping Centre.
Villawood CEO Alan Miller said Christmas is such an important time for families, children especially, and it’s great to be able to celebrate as a community.
“The Gawler Christmas parade is shaping up as a terrific fun event,” said Mr Miller.
“We want to make sure the town can really swing into the Christmas spirit together as a community – Santa and sleigh bells, carols and candy canes and loads of fun.”
“Villawood is keen to see Gawler’s different community groups all coming together for this high point of the year. We’re very happy to be able to play a role in that.”
Gawler Mayor, Karen Redman said she was absolutely thrilled to be a part of the upcoming Villawood Christmas Parade this Saturday!
“As Mayor, it brings me immense joy to witness the community coming together for such a festive and heartwarming event,” said Mayor Redman.
“I want to express my gratitude to the incredible sponsors who have made this parade possible – the Town of Gawler, Villawood Properties, Gawler Business Development Group, and the unwavering support of Tony Piccolo MP.”
“Their commitment to our community is truly commendable, and their contributions have played a pivotal role in making this event a reality.”
“Christmas is a special time of the year, and I believe there is no better way to celebrate than by coming together as a community.
“This parade promises to be a family event like no other, with over 40 floats that will transform Murray Street into a magical spectacle of Christmas cheer.”
Event co-ordinator, local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo said the Christmas Parade is a celebration of community life in the greater Gawler area.
“The parade entries reflect the cultural richness and diversity of our community, said Mr Piccolo.
Copies of the program can be obtained during the week at local cafes, online via the Q Code and will be available at the parade itself.
Mr Piccolo said that there will be a range entertainment for children, during the parade and at the after-parade event at Apex Park. The Children’s entertainment is sponsored by the Gawler Central Shopping Centre.
Mr Piccolo said following the parade, the Rotary Club of Gawler Light will be turning on the lights of their annual Aussie Christmas Display along the riverbank adjacent to Apex Park.
There will be an opportunity for photos with Santa, music will be provided by the Gawler Town Band and the Gawler Singers, and food and drinks will be available.
