The Gawler VIEW Club is unwrapping the spirit of giving early this year with its beloved Christmas in July Lunch, bringing together community, compassion and a sprinkle of tinsel on Monday, 14th July 2025 from 11am at Nixon’s Function Centre, Gawler.
This popular annual celebration, lovingly initiated by longtime members Lyn O’Brien and Patricia Carter, is more than a chance to indulge in a two-course meal—it’s a key fundraiser in support of The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program, which helps disadvantaged Australian children succeed at school and beyond.
“We always say it’s the warmest event on the coldest day,” said Ms O’Brien, who helped pioneer this special tradition in Gawler.
“There’s nothing quite like sharing laughter, delicious food and a cheeky raffle win with friends.”
Tony Piccolo MP has been a long-time supporter of the local VIEW Club, and is encouraging the community to get involved in the event, have fun and consider joining the group.
“I still remember sitting in their inaugural meeting back in 2003 as Mayor—since then, I’ve watched this club grow and thrive, empowering women to come together and make a positive difference in our community,” said Mr Piccolo.
“I’ve always been a strong supporter of children’s education and that is at the heart of VIEW’s mission—giving kids a fair go.
“It fills me with pride to see how far they’ve come, and this event is a great opportunity for the community to come together for a great cause, enjoy a few laughs and meet members to see what the club is all about.”
Guests will enjoy a choice of roast turkey or oven-baked barramundi, followed by Christmas pudding or a mini pavlova, all while supporting a cause that changes lives.
A Winter Raffle, door prizes and loads of festive flair will add to the joyous atmosphere.
“Fundraisers like this one are not only fun, they’re vital to the work we do with VIEW and The Smith Family,” said Ms Carter.
“The support we’ve seen from the Gawler community over the years has meant everything to us.
“It’s how we make a real difference, one child at a time, and new members are always welcome.”
Labor candidate for Light James Agness will also be attending the event.
“The View Club’s Christmas in July is a fixture on the social calendar and a fantastic way to brighten a Winter’s Day,” said Mr Agness.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity to crack some early Christmas cheer and acknowledge the amazing work the Gawler View club undertake in our community.
“So why not, dust of your best Christmas Jumper or hat and head down for a sneaky serve of Christmas Pud all in support a worthy cause.”
All are welcome—family, friends and teddy bears included—with costs at $40 per person.
Raffle tickets are also available to purchase at the Light Electorate Office (148 Murray Street, Gawler) at $2 each.
Book before Monday, 7th July by calling Rosalie on 0428 946 988.
