The Gawler Renal Support Group was developed over 2 years ago, to address the social, information and support needs of people with Chronic Kidney Disease, people on dialysis, and those who have received a transplant.
Elina Dalziel, Convenor Renal Patients’ Alliance SA said that through lunch social events which occur either in Gawler or Elizabeth - for Lyell Mcwen patients, a wonderful opportunity for information exchange on respective journeys into health care takes place.
“The schedule for each lunch varies in order that those people on dialysis can attend according to their roster,” Ms Dalziel said.Local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo said funding has been allocated for the development and construction of a new dialysis Unit at the Gawler Hospital.
“This is now progressing and will cater for people in the Gawler and Barossa region,” Mr Piccolo said. The Alliance is also promoting increased awareness of kidney disease in our community and promotes the SA Heath resources such as dietary information, physical activity improvements and ‘holiday dialysis vacancies' in Victoria through our networks with Victorians.
